How credits work

The short version

A credit measures AI creation use. Your subscription grants a set number every month. Every action that costs credits tells you the exact price on the button before you press it.

That’s the whole system.

What you get each month

Credits are fully shared within the features your plan can reach. There is no separate video balance and no monthly sub-limit — spend the lot on one thing if you want to.

What each action costs

AI video requires Studio Motion. Everything not on this list — drawing, editing, layout, recording your own narration, music, PDF export, video export, backups — costs nothing.

Translation is charged by how many pages actually changed, plus the cover if it needs it, so a small edit is cheap and a whole-book translation is capped at 15.

What a month’s allowance gets you

Studio Plus, 400 credits. That is any one of:

• forty illustrations; or
• a twenty-page book, planned, with an illustration and a narration on every page (265, leaving 135 to redo pages); or
• a hundred and thirty AI-narrated pages; or
• eighty story plans, which nobody needs.

Studio Motion, 800 credits. For example, a six-page book with a plan, six illustrations, six narrations, and a five-second clip on every page:

5 + (6 × 10) + (6 × 3) + (6 × 25) = 233 credits

The same book with ten-second clips costs 383. Both leave room to redo pages you are not happy with.

Rate limits and safeguards

Separately from your balance, the service allows two image generations per minute, one video start per minute, and one active video generation at a time. Wait a moment after a rate-limit message, or let the current video finish before starting another.

There is no daily credit cap. Your credits are yours to spend at whatever pace you like. Provider-cost and service-wide safety controls can temporarily pause AI creation during an incident, but such a pause never consumes or expires credits.

Top-up packs

Active subscribers can buy packs of 200, 500, or 1,000 credits at a price set by your app store. Purchased credits go into a second wallet that does not expire, and your monthly allowance is always spent first.

A pack adds credits and nothing else. It does not change your plan, and it does not unlock AI video for a Studio Plus subscriber — only Studio Motion does that. Purchased credits can also only be spent while a paid subscription is active, so they are a top-up, not a way to stay on after cancelling.

Why video costs so much more

Because it genuinely does. Generating five seconds of video costs us orders of magnitude more than generating one still image, and we run it on GPUs we operate ourselves. We could hide that by averaging it across everyone, but then light users would be subsidising heavy video use and we would have to cap things silently.

Showing the real relative cost lets you decide. Most pages do not need video, and one moving page in a book is more striking than ten.

When credits come back

Automatic refund: provider failure, safety refusal, empty or corrupt output. Credits return to the wallet they were taken from.

No refund: a successful generation you did not like.

Retry protection: every request carries an ID, so a retry of the same request never charges twice. Generation runs on our servers, so closing the app does not lose the work or the credits.

Making an allowance go further

1. Write better descriptions. Two minutes of editing beats three rerolls. See write a better prompt.
2. Be deliberate about video. At 25–50 credits a clip it is the one choice that really moves your balance. One moving page usually beats six.
3. Record your own narration. Free, unlimited, and better for a keepsake.
4. Use sketches and photographs directly. They cost nothing and often suit the book better.
5. Translate once you have settled the English. Editing English marks a page for review, and re-translating it costs again.
6. Reuse a prompt that worked. Change only the subject, keep the style.
