Sketch to illustration

Draw on the canvas or photograph a drawing your child already made, then turn it into a finished illustration that still looks like theirs.

What it does

You start with a drawing. Either draw it in the app on a full canvas with brushes, colours, an eraser, undo and redo — or take a photo of one that already exists on paper. The sketch is saved to your project before anything else happens, so the original is never lost or overwritten.

From there you can use the sketch exactly as it is. That costs nothing and needs no internet. Or, with Studio Plus, you can turn it into a finished illustration.

You see the recipe before anything is generated

This is the part we care most about. When you ask for an illustration, the app does not quietly send your picture off and hand back a surprise. It shows you a review screen first:

  • the source sketch, so you can confirm you picked the right one;
  • a description of what the finished picture should look like, written into a text field you can rewrite completely;
  • art style — storybook, watercolour, crayon, flat colour, and others;
  • shape — square, portrait, or landscape;
  • details to keep — a free text box for the things that matter. “The dog is purple.” “Keep the wonky chimney.”

If you would like help describing it, you can ask the app to suggest a description from the sketch. The suggestion appears in the same editable field. It is never hidden from you and never sent onward without your say-so.

Carrying a character from page to page

When you generate from a reference — a previous page, a Library picture, a photo, the camera, or a drawing — three switches decide what carries over:

Keep characters — the same child, dog, or dragon appears again.

Keep setting — the same place and background.

Keep visual style — the same look and palette.

Continuing a scene turns on all three. Picking a new reference turns on characters and visual style but leaves setting off, which is what you want when the same character moves somewhere new — the kitchen becomes a forest, but the dragon stays your dragon.

Your choices are stored with the page, so a retry or a later regeneration keeps them. See consistent characters for how the story anchor keeps them the same across a whole book.

Then you decide

Press Create illustration and you get a progress indicator that names the stage it’s on and can be interrupted. When the result arrives you can accept it, adjust the recipe and try again, or throw it away and keep the original sketch.

The original drawing stays in your project library either way, labelled as the source. Every generated picture keeps a note of what it came from.

Studio Plus Creating an illustration costs 10 credits. The exact cost is shown on the button before you press it. If the generation fails or is refused, the credits go back automatically. See how credits work.

What it is not

It will not make a photorealistic picture of a real child, and we do not offer face matching, likeness transfer, or anything that tries to reproduce a specific person’s face. The point is to make their drawing look wonderful, not to manufacture a fake photograph.
