Understanding your credits

What a credit is, what each action costs, when credits reset, and when they come back automatically.

What a credit is

A credit measures AI creation use. It is not money, it has no cash value, and it cannot be redeemed, transferred, or withdrawn. It exists so that expensive operations cost more than cheap ones, in units you can see before you commit.

How many you get

PlanCredits per monthAI video
Studio Plus400No
Studio Motion800Yes

Credits are shared across everything your plan can do. There is no separate video balance — a Motion subscriber can spend all 800 on clips, or none of them.

What things cost

ActionCost
Prepare a suggested description1 credit
Generate narration for a page3 credits
Generate a story or travelogue plan5 credits
Translate the cover and pages1 each, minimum 5, maximum 15
Generate or restyle one illustration10 credits
AI video — 5 / 10 seconds25 / 50 credits

AI video requires Studio Motion. The exact charge is always shown on the button before you press it.

Translation is priced by how many pages actually changed, plus the cover if it needs one, so fixing a typo on one page is cheap. A whole-book translation is capped at 15 credits.

When they reset

Credits are granted monthly, on your credit period boundary, to monthly and annual subscribers alike. The Plan and credits screen shows remaining / total and the next reset date.

Monthly credits do not roll over — unused credits at the end of a period expire. Credits bought in a top-up pack are different: they live in a second wallet and do not expire. Your monthly allowance is always spent first, so a pack is never burned while a free allowance is still sitting there.

There is no daily credit limit. Your balance is yours to spend at whatever pace suits you.

If you upgrade or downgrade

Upgrading from Plus to Motion mid-month raises your allowance from 400 to 800 straight away and keeps the credits you have already spent — you are not reset and you do not end up with two wallets.

Downgrading never reduces your allowance during a month you have already paid for. The lower allowance starts at the next monthly boundary.

When credits come back

Automatically refunded:

  • the AI provider failed or could not be reached
  • the request was refused on safety grounds
  • the output came back empty or corrupt

Refunds go back to the wallet the credits came from.

Not automatically refunded:

  • a successful generation you simply did not like

For that last case, improving your description is almost always cheaper than rerolling. See write a better prompt.

Request retries: every request carries an ID, so repeating the same request never reserves the charge twice. Generating a new variation or a replacement is a new request and costs credits again.

Closing the app is safe. Image and video generation run on our servers as durable background jobs. They survive closing the app, restarting the phone, and losing signal. A finished result arrives in your Library as a candidate you can accept onto a page for manual generation. In an approved whole-book run, completed media is attached to the selected pages as part of that run. Review the complete project before export.

Rate limits

Separately from your balance, the service allows two image generations per minute, one video start per minute, and one active AI video at a time. If you hit one of these, wait a moment or let the current video finish.

A video that has been accepted may also queue before it starts rendering, since clips run on GPUs we operate. The app shows the queue position, and your credits stay reserved until the job succeeds or fails.

Provider-cost and service-wide safeguards can temporarily pause AI creation during an incident. Such a pause never spends or expires the credits in your balance.

Making credits go further

  1. Write better descriptions. The single biggest saving. Two minutes of editing beats three rerolls.
  2. Be deliberate about video. At 25–50 credits it is the one choice that really moves your balance. One moving page usually beats six.
  3. Record your own narration. It is free, unlimited, and better.
  4. Use photographs and sketches directly. They cost nothing and often suit the book more than a generated illustration.
  5. Settle the English before translating. Editing English marks a translated page for review, and updating it costs credits again.
  6. Reuse a prompt that worked instead of experimenting from scratch on every page.
