What's next
Roadmap
What we are building next for Doodle Dragon Studio, what we are considering, and what we have decided not to do.
Join the beta ahead of the Free release
Free store release target: October 20, 2026. Subject to Apple and Google approval. Studio Plus and Studio Motion public releases will follow.
Try Free now on iOS or Android and help shape the launch. Studio Plus and Studio Motion remain previews ahead of their public releases; sign in to the app to be considered for complimentary AI beta credits if you’d like to help test them.
We would rather tell you what is missing than imply everything is finished. This page is updated as things move. Nothing here is a promise with a date on it, but the ordering is real.
In the current beta
Studio Motion and AI video
AI video now has its own subscription tier, Studio Motion, with 800 credits a month. Studio Plus continues at 400 credits with every other AI tool. Clips are five or ten seconds and render on hardware we operate.
Credit packs
Packs of 200, 500, and 1,000 credits are available to active subscribers. Purchased credits do not expire and your monthly allowance is always spent first. A pack adds credits only — it does not change your plan or unlock AI video.
Bilingual stories
A project can now carry a second language alongside the English original, with its own page text and its own narration, while the artwork, layout, and page order stay shared. Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Japanese, and Korean are available in beta. Editing the English marks a translated page Needs review rather than silently replacing it.
Cloud backup and restore
Studio Plus now offers opt-in private project backup, automatic backup, conflict
review, Cloud Trash, and restore on another device. Local-only work and portable
.ddstory archives remain fully supported.
Account deletion in the app
Signed-in parents can permanently delete their Firebase account, private cloud data, and associated RevenueCat customer from the Account tab. The email route remains available when the app cannot be accessed.
Audio mixing on iOS
Exported video now mixes narration, page video sound, and looping story music on iOS as well as Android, through the same layer model and volume controls. Both platforms use their own native media pipeline behind a shared contract.
Automatic book and movie generation
Generate selected page illustrations or a whole movie from a reviewed plan. The current beta supports eligible saved drafts, a credit quote before starting, background progress, and recovery of unfinished work. Completed media is attached to the selected pages, ready for review and individual edits.
Studio Plus generates whole storybooks; Studio Motion generates whole video books. Availability depends on your beta build and account, so join the beta to try them.
More control over scenes and speech
Review motion, camera, continuity, ending composition, and sound in the page plan. Keep speaker identity and voice instructions separate from spoken words. Manual video replacement keeps the old page until you accept the new clip, with saved generation details available for review.
Building now
Commercial-print PDF export
The current app exports one fixed portrait PDF format for reading and ordinary home printing. A higher-resolution export with selectable paper size, crop and bleed settings, and clearer print guidance still needs to be built and tested before it can be sold as a Studio Plus benefit.
Complete media editing controls
The on-device photo editor has curated looks plus Light, Contrast, Colour, and Warmth, and both crop-and-position and video trimming have since shipped. Rotate and straighten are next, followed by video playback controls and audio trim and fades.
Recovery and accessibility cleanup
Page Trash and an in-app bulk local-data deletion action are not in the current release. (Restart recovery for in-progress AI jobs has since shipped — image and video generation now run as durable background jobs.) The Account tab’s legacy learner settings also need to be replaced by a dedicated Accessibility screen, followed by complete TalkBack, VoiceOver, large-text, and contrast testing.
Printed keepsake books
Order a real bound hardcover or softcover of a finished project, printed and posted to you. This is the thing people ask us for most, and honestly it is what a keepsake app should have had from the start.
Next up
Character consistency
Keep characters, Keep setting, and Keep visual style controls have shipped, so a new picture can carry a previous page’s character and style forward. Holding one character recognisable across a whole book, rather than page to page, is still the hardest thing on this list and still the most requested.
Interface languages
Stories can now be written and narrated in eleven languages, but the app’s own buttons and menus are still English only. Translating the interface is the next step.
Tablet and landscape layouts
The app is portrait-first. A proper tablet layout, with the canvas given the room it deserves, is overdue.
Credit rollover
Monthly credits currently expire at the end of the period they were granted in. If we add rollover it will be capped at one month’s allowance, with the oldest grant spent first.
Considering
Reusable cast and voice profiles to keep character descriptions consistent throughout a book
Automatic visual checks to compare a generated picture with its intended characters, composition, and visible speaker
Direct image input to the page planner, alongside the outline, to reduce dependence on a separately reviewed description
Audio-only export — a plain audio file of the narrated book, so it can go on a bedroom speaker, a car stereo, or a children’s audio player instead of a phone
Shared viewing links — a private link so a grandparent can read a book without installing anything
A web reader for exported books
More art styles and template packs
Recipe and holiday book templates
Generated background music, once we can do it well and price it fairly
Collaborative projects, so two parents can work on the same book
Decided against
Being clear about this is as useful as the rest:
- A public gallery or social feed. Not building it. What you make is yours and goes where you send it.
- Child accounts. The adult holds the account. See family safety.
- Face matching or likeness transfer. Not building it, at any price.
- Advertising. No ads, no ad SDKs, ever.
- “Unlimited AI” marketing. Every generation has a real cost. Credits are less comfortable to advertise and more honest to live with.
Tell us what you need
Feature requests from actual users are what move things up this list. Email support@doodledragon.app and tell us what you were trying to make and what got in the way. That is far more useful to us than a proposed solution.
